Rio Dulce and Tikal
Mike and Phil flew back to the US. Kasey and Rob took a back road into Guatemala first overnighting in a riparian town called Rio Dulce. The next day there was an excursion to a waterfall fed by thermal pools which cascaded into a swimming hole nestled in the jungle.
After that Kasey and Rob went into Peten to Flores. Early the next morning the fog enveloped the jungle melting into big drops of water falling through the dense canopy at the ruined city of Tikal. The sun got through the steamy mist to reveal towering pyriamids. Unfortunately the camera was without battery life–such is life. There were monkeys, baby monkeys, choatis and birds. In the afternoon the place was inundated with tourists.
Kasey and Rob journeyed on buses after that; 17 hours overnight through Guatemala City to reach Retalaheu.
